August 24, 2007 - Great Lakes Sprint Series - New Castle Report
The DB Motorsports crew headed to Mark Dismore’s New Castle Motorsports Park for the Great Lakes Sprint Series Event. Using this as a tune-up
event for the upcoming Manufacturer’s cup event, team driver Caleb Loniewski was in full learning mode. With this being his second event with
the team and second event in the Kosmic T-11 chassis, the team was out to gain as much data as possible. Throughout the day, Loniewski gained
confidence as well as speed come time for qualifying. Turning in the third fast lap would see Loniewski start from inside the second row. After 6 hard
faught laps, Loniewski would end up finishing in the second position behind New Castle regular Billy Lewis. Loniewski might have ended up second in
the results, but set fast lap of the race. Never going out on the track with the same setup twice, Loniewski would end the day in 5th place after all
was said and done. The results of this day don’t show the knowledge and outstanding pace that was gained.
Sunday would prove to be an
even better experience for the entire team. Loniewski would take his Cook Racing Engines powered Kosmic T-11 to the pole as well as a new TAG track
record. His pole setting time was nearly a second clear of the rest of the field. After an horrendous start, Loniewski would come back in great
fashion finishing third while setting fast lap of the race. The satge was set for the final, Loniewski would start in second place. After dropping
back to 4th on the start, Caleb would put on a beautiful drive to get back to second position again setting fast lap of the race. On the final lap,
the leader left the door open entering a hard breaking turn 12, but Loniewski was a bit too far off to make the pass. Settling for a second place
result in the standings, the entire team once again learned an invaluable amount for the next weeks WKA Manufacturers Cup event.
